Delhi AQI Protest: Seized Videos Show Protesters Supporting Banned Extremist Outfit, Say Police

The Delhi Police have retrieved crucial video evidence that may significantly widen the investigation into last week’s air-quality protest at Kartavya Path, where demonstrators displayed posters supporting Maoist leader Madavi Hidma. Authorities now believe that several arrested individuals were involved in activities endorsing banned extremist organisations.

Hyderabad Footage Under Scanner

One of the videos recovered by investigators shows a gathering of students affiliated with the Bhagat Singh Student Ekta Manch (BSCEM) inside a conference room in Hyderabad earlier this year. In the clip, participants can be heard shouting slogans and singing in support of members of the Radical Students Union (RSU).

The RSU has been a banned organisation since 2005 under central government orders. Police sources say the expression of support for a proscribed outfit is now being examined as part of the broader probe into the Delhi protest.

Sisters Appear in Both Videos

Investigators have identified two women, sisters Gurkirat and Ravjot, who appear in both the Hyderabad video and the Kartavya Path protest footage. The duo was among those arrested after raising slogans backing Hidma during the AQI demonstration.

Police Probe Possible Network Links

Officers are now analysing the social-media activity, communications, and past affiliations of all those detained. The aim is to determine whether the support for extremist outfits was an isolated act or part of a coordinated ideological movement. Officials say additional arrests may follow based on digital forensics and further video authentication.

The discovery of these videos has intensified scrutiny on the groups involved, significantly shifting the trajectory of the investigation into what initially appeared to be an environmental protest.
