JSSC-CGL Exam Irregularities: Jharkhand CID Makes Ninth Arrest in Recruitment Case

The Jharkhand Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested another accused in the alleged Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JSSC-CGL) irregularities case, taking the total number of arrests to nine.

The latest accused, identified as Sameer Kumar from Bengabad in Giridih district, was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the recruitment examination.

The JSSC-CGL examination was conducted in September 2024. The case has resulted in multiple arrests since August 18, with the Jharkhand CID continuing to investigate the alleged recruitment irregularities.

The probe began with the arrest of alleged main accused Abhay Tiwari on July 22. At the time, Tiwari was serving as a block supply officer in Poriyahat, Godda district. His wife Sushama Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari were subsequently arrested on August 18.

The CID later arrested two more accused and, on Friday, four successful candidates who had appeared in the JSSC-CGL examination.

The Jharkhand government had earlier announced the cancellation of several recruitment examinations, including the JSSC-CGL-2023 exam conducted on September 21 and 22, 2024. The decision followed protests by job aspirants over alleged irregularities.

However, the Jharkhand High Court subsequently stayed the cancellation of some examinations, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, after successful candidates approached the court. The candidates argued that cancelling the examination could put their jobs at risk.

A Special Investigation Team of the Jharkhand CID is continuing to investigate the alleged irregularities. The latest arrest indicates that the probe is expanding, even as the examination cancellation remains subject to the court proceedings.
