Kashmiri Man Detained After Attempting to Offer Namaz Inside Ayodhya Ram Mandir Complex

Security agencies detained a man from Kashmir on Friday after he allegedly attempted to offer namaz inside the high-security Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, raising concerns ahead of upcoming religious events in the temple town.

According to official sources, the individual has been identified as Ahmed Sheikh, a 55-year-old resident of Shopian district in Kashmir. Officials said he entered the Ram Mandir premises as a visitor and completed darshan at the temple. However, after moving deeper into the complex, he allegedly sat near the Sita Rasoi area, where security personnel noticed him preparing to offer namaz.

Temple security staff immediately intervened and stopped the man before any religious act could be performed. He was detained on the spot and later handed over to the local police for questioning. Some sources claimed that Ahmed Sheikh raised slogans when confronted by security personnel, though this assertion has not yet been officially confirmed by the authorities.

Police and intelligence agencies have launched a detailed inquiry to ascertain the man’s intent and to determine whether the incident was an isolated act or part of a larger plan. Officials said investigators are verifying his travel history, purpose of visit to Ayodhya, and whether he had any local contacts or assistance.

During preliminary checks, police reportedly recovered items such as cashews and raisins from his possession. Sources said the man informed investigators that he was travelling onward to Ajmer, a claim that is also being verified as part of the probe. His mobile phone, documents and other belongings are being examined to establish a clearer picture of his movements prior to reaching Ayodhya.

Senior police officials said that while there is no immediate indication of a broader security threat, the incident has prompted a review of existing security protocols within the Ram Mandir complex. Intelligence agencies are also assessing whether there were any lapses in surveillance or access control, given the sensitive nature of the site.

The district administration and the Ram Temple Trust have so far refrained from issuing an official statement on the matter. Authorities indicated that more clarity would emerge once questioning is completed and all facts are verified.

The incident comes at a sensitive time, as Ayodhya is preparing for Makar Sankranti celebrations next week, which are expected to draw a large influx of pilgrims from across the country. Security arrangements across the city have already been tightened in anticipation of the festival season.

It also occurred just days ahead of the second anniversary of the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple on January 22, an occasion that is likely to see heightened footfall and increased security deployment.

Officials emphasised that investigations are ongoing and urged the public not to speculate until all facts are established. Meanwhile, security agencies remain on alert to ensure that religious activities and public order in Ayodhya remain undisturbed.
