Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protest Over LPG Crisis in Budget Session 2026

Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned until 12 noon during the ongoing Parliament Budget Session 2026 after opposition members staged protests over the alleged shortage of cooking gas in the country.

Speaker Om Birla announced the adjournment following loud sloganeering by opposition MPs who raised concerns regarding the availability of Liquefied Petroleum Gas across several parts of India.

The protest added to the heated political atmosphere in Parliament as parties debated the issue of fuel supply disruptions linked to global tensions.

TMC MPs Lead Protest in Parliament

Members of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) staged a protest in the Parliament complex earlier in the day.

Holding placards, the MPs raised slogans and accused the government of failing to address what they described as an LPG supply crisis. The demonstration was scheduled to begin around 10:30 am and drew attention from several opposition leaders.

Opposition parties have been questioning the government’s handling of the situation as reports of LPG refill shortages emerged in different regions.

Government Says Fuel Supply Is Adequate

Responding to the concerns, Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the country has sufficient fuel stocks and that there is no nationwide shortage of LPG.

The minister assured Parliament that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to ensure smooth distribution of cooking gas across the country.

He also said India’s energy supply system remains strong despite the global uncertainty caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

PM Modi Calls for Calm

Earlier, Narendra Modi addressed the issue and urged citizens not to panic over the reports of LPG shortages.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that India would overcome the challenge just as it successfully managed crises during the **COVID‑19 pandemic.

He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in hoarding or black-marketing cooking gas cylinders.

Opposition Pushes for Action Against CEC

Apart from the LPG issue, opposition MPs also announced plans to submit notices seeking the removal of Gyanesh Kumar.

According to opposition leaders, 193 MPs from the INDIA alliance have signed notices related to the matter. Of these, 130 MPs belong to the Lok Sabha while 63 members are from the Rajya Sabha.

It remains unclear which House will receive the notice first.

Political Debate Continues in Parliament

The developments during the Budget Session highlight the growing political debate around energy supply and governance issues.

With protests continuing and opposition parties pushing for discussions on multiple topics, further disruptions in Parliament proceedings are expected as the session progresses.

The government, meanwhile, has maintained that fuel supply remains stable and that measures are in place to prevent shortages.
