Trump-Modi Friendship Key to India-US Trade Deal, Says US Envoy at Conclave 2026

The personal relationship between Narendra Modi and Donald Trump played a decisive role in finalising the India–US trade agreement, according to US envoy Sergio Gor.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026, Gor highlighted how the strong rapport between the two leaders helped push the deal across the finish line after prolonged negotiations.

He described Modi and Trump as the “only two dealmakers” who ultimately ensured the agreement was finalised.

During his remarks at the conclave, the US envoy emphasised that high-level personal diplomacy was critical in resolving differences and moving negotiations forward.
