Arundhati Reddy Shines Against New Zealand Ahead of Women’s World Cup 2025

Indian fast bowler Arundhati Reddy made a remarkable comeback with a brilliant spell against New Zealand, putting injury concerns to rest ahead of the Women’s World Cup 2025, which begins on September 30. In India’s second warm-up match on Saturday, September 27, at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru, Reddy recorded impressive figures of 9-0-42-2, delivering a timely boost for the team.

Her return came after a freak injury in the opening practice game against England. While attempting to grab a sharp return catch from Heather Knight, Reddy lost her balance and fell awkwardly on her left leg, collapsing on the field. Medical staff rushed in, and she was taken off in a wheelchair after being unable to bear weight on the leg.

Despite initial doubts, Reddy bounced back in style, bowling with intent and precision against New Zealand. Her efforts helped India recover from a 153-run defeat to England and secure a four-wicket (DLS) victory over the White Ferns, building crucial momentum ahead of the World Cup.

Reddy struck early by dismissing Isabella Gaze, who had recently scored a century against India A. Reddy’s sharp delivery beat Gaze, and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh completed the stumping. She later bowled Jess Kerr, completing a highly effective spell.

Thanks to her performance, India restricted New Zealand to 232 for 8 in a rain-curtailed 42-over match. In reply, India chased the target in 40.2 overs, anchored by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 69 and Harleen Deol’s fluent 74.

India will now open their Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign against Sri Lanka, led by Chamari Athapaththu, on September 30 at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati.
