Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Controversy: Mohsin Naqvi Denies Handover to India

A controversy erupted after the conclusion of the Asia Cup 2025, with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi reportedly refusing to hand over the trophy to India. Naqvi, who also serves as a minister in Pakistan, insisted that Indian skipper Surya Kumar Yadav personally visit the ACC headquarters to claim the trophy.

In an interview with India Today, Surya Kumar Yadav addressed the issue, emphasizing the value of the team over material symbols. “14 players and 10–12 support staff — that’s the real trophy,” he said. The Indian team, according to Yadav, remained focused on cricket and believed that winning the tournament itself was the best response to the ongoing standoff.

The trophy handover dispute has continued to make headlines, overshadowing the Indian team’s historic performance in the tournament. While the ACC has maintained its stance, the Indian team appears determined to let their on-field success speak louder than the controversy.
