Vaibhav Suryavanshi Hits 78-Ball Century, Breaks Youth Test Records in Brisbane

India U-19 sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14 years old, lit up the Youth Test against Australia U-19 at Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane, with a scintillating 113 off 86 balls, powering his team into a dominant position on October 2, 2025.

A Record-Breaking Knock

Suryavanshi’s 78-ball century is now the fastest in Youth Test history on Australian soil, surpassing Liam Blackford’s 124-ball effort. His innings featured eight sixes and nine fours, breaking the record for the most sixes in a Youth Test innings. India U-19, trailing by 23 runs when he reached the milestone, seized control of the match thanks to his aggressive yet composed batting.

Emulating Brendon McCullum

With this century, Vaibhav became the first player in the world to score two Youth Test hundreds in under 100 balls before turning 15, surpassing a record previously held by New Zealand great Brendon McCullum. His earlier Youth Test century came off just 58 balls during Australia U-19’s 2024 India tour.

Additionally, Suryavanshi overtook Ayush Mhatre’s record for most sixes by an Indian in Youth Tests, taking his tally to 15. He had earlier surpassed Unmukt Chand’s Youth ODI sixes record with a remarkable performance earlier on the tour.

IPL and Youth ODI Achievements

Vaibhav’s rise has been meteoric. Earlier in 2025, he became the youngest IPL centurion, smashing 100 off just 35 balls for Rajasthan Royals, scoring 252 runs in his debut season at a staggering strike rate of 206.55. In July, he also set the record for the fastest Youth ODI hundred (52 balls) against England U-19, cementing his reputation as one of the brightest prospects in world cricket.

The Road Ahead

At just 14, Suryavanshi’s combination of power, timing, and fearless intent has made him a player to watch across formats. With performances like these, he is clearly on a path to challenge records at the senior level and become a future star of Indian cricket.
