Delhi Police Foil ISIS-Inspired Attack, Arrest 2 Suspects

Delhi Police Special Cell has successfully foiled a planned ISIS-inspired suicide attack in the national capital by arresting two operatives involved in the terror plot.

The arrests were carried out following coordinated raids in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. One suspect was apprehended in South Delhi, while the second was arrested from Madhya Pradesh, highlighting the interstate reach of the terror module.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the two individuals were in the advanced stages of preparing for an improvised explosive device (IED) attack targeting key areas in the national capital. Authorities confirmed that both suspects had undergone training for a suicide mission and were allegedly in direct contact with handlers affiliated with the banned terrorist organization ISIS.

Multiple intelligence and security agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other counter-terror units, are jointly interrogating the arrested suspects. The goal is to identify other members of the module and fully map the operational network behind the plot.

A senior Delhi Police officer stated, “The suspects had acquired materials and knowledge to carry out a suicide attack, but timely intelligence and coordinated action prevented a potential tragedy in the national capital.” The officer added that further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise targets and timeline of the planned attack.

The arrests come amid rising concerns over ISIS-inspired radicalization in India. Security analysts have noted that while the country has not witnessed large-scale attacks in recent years, lone-wolf and small-cell operations remain a significant threat. The Delhi Police Special Cell’s swift action underscores the importance of proactive intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination in counter-terror operations.

Authorities are also examining digital footprints, communication channels, and financial transactions of the arrested individuals to uncover any further links to the global ISIS network. Experts warn that the ideological influence of ISIS continues to pose challenges, particularly among young, radicalized individuals, emphasizing the need for constant vigilance and preventive measures.

The successful bust has been welcomed by policymakers and security officials, who view it as a critical step in safeguarding the national capital from terrorist activities. The operation reinforces India’s commitment to countering terrorism and ensuring public safety through robust intelligence and law enforcement mechanisms.

With investigations ongoing, Delhi Police are urging citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, reiterating that cooperation between law enforcement and the public is key to thwarting terror threats.
