JNU Student Elections 2025: Voting on November 4, Results on November 6

Jawaharlal Nehru University is set to witness one of the most closely watched student political contests in the country as the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) election is scheduled for November 4, 2025. As per the election programme issued by the university committee, vote counting will begin the same night, and the results will be officially declared on November 6.

This year’s polls mark another crucial chapter in the long tradition of student-led democratic participation on the campus, which has historically shaped national-level discourse and produced prominent political leaders.

Election Timeline and Candidate Process

The election activities commence with the publication of the tentative voter list and a correction window available from 9 am to 5 pm on the day of announcement. Nomination forms will be distributed on October 25 between 2 pm and 5 pm. Interested candidates must submit their forms on October 27 from 9:30 am to 5 pm.

A preliminary list of valid nominations will be released at 10 am on October 28. Candidates will have time to withdraw their nominations later that afternoon from 2 pm to 5 pm. By 7 pm, the final list of contesting candidates will be issued, followed by an official press briefing where campaigning spaces will be allocated.

Campaigning and Debates

Campaigning will take place from October 29 to November 1 across departments and schools. School-level General Body Meetings (GBMs) are scheduled from October 29 to 31, while the University General Body Meeting (UGBM) will be held on November 1.

A key attraction for the student community—the presidential debate—is set for November 2. Known for passionate arguments and ideological contest, the debate is expected to draw heavy student participation.

Polling, Counting & Fair Conduct

November 3 has been designated as a “No Campaign Day” in order to maintain a neutral atmosphere before voting. Students will cast their ballots on November 4 in two time slots: 9 am to 1 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Counting begins at 9 pm on the same evening. To ensure transparency and smooth conduct, the university has already constituted a grievance redressal cell to manage queries and address disputes throughout the election process.

Previous Election Outcome

In the previous student union polls, Left-aligned student groups secured most key positions, while the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) managed to win the joint secretary post — marking a significant comeback after several years.

With diverse political groups gearing up and student enthusiasm already visible on campus, the upcoming JNU elections are expected to provide a lively democratic atmosphere. As campaigning begins and debates intensify, all eyes will be on how student mandates shape the new leadership for the academic year ahead.
