India Brazil Strategic Dialogue 2025: Defence, Energy, and Critical Minerals in Focus

India and Brazil advanced their strategic partnership in New Delhi during the 6th India-Brazil Strategic Dialogue. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Brazil’s Special Adviser to the President, Ambassador Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, along with senior officials, to review cooperation in key areas.

The dialogue followed up on the five pillars of cooperation identified during Prime Minister Modi’s State Visit to Brazil in July 2025. Discussions included defence and security, energy, rare earths and critical minerals, health, and pharmaceuticals, as well as coordination in multilateral forums such as Brics, IBSA, and the upcoming COP-30 hosted by Brazil in November.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the talks as a “useful exchange on the current global scenario and on opportunities for deepening our strategic cooperation.”

The meeting comes amid global trade challenges, including US tariffs on India and Brazil, reinforcing the need for stronger bilateral collaboration in trade, energy, defence, and technology. Both countries agreed to continue implementing the vision laid down by PM Modi and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with Lula planning a visit to India early next year.

For India, closer engagement with Brazil enhances trade resilience, energy security, and technology partnerships, while cooperation in critical minerals and defence supports supply-chain diversification and self-reliance. Joint action in multilateral forums provides a strategic counterbalance to Western-led groupings.
