Karur Stampede: Vijay’s TVK Cancels Diwali Celebrations, Faces Criticism Over Victim Outreach

The tragic Karur stampede on September 27, which claimed 41 lives, continues to impact political circles in Tamil Nadu. Actor-politician Vijay, head of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has ordered all party cadres to refrain from Diwali celebrations as a mark of respect for the victims, urging them to stand in solidarity with grieving families.

The party has also initiated financial compensation of ₹20 lakh for the families of each deceased individual, highlighting its attempt to provide relief in the aftermath of the disaster.

Despite these steps, Vijay and TVK face criticism over delays in personally meeting the victims’ families, raising questions about the party’s response timing. The Supreme Court has ordered a CBI probe into the stampede, intensifying public and political scrutiny on all parties involved.

The incident has sparked debates over accountability, disaster management, and political responsibility in the state, with Vijay and TVK under the spotlight for both their gestures of condolence and perceived delays in engagement with the victims’ families.
