Karnataka Blocks RSS March: Political Clash Between Congress and Sangh Escalates

The political confrontation between Karnataka’s Congress government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has intensified after the state denied permission for an RSS march in Chittapur, Kalaburagi. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified, “The target is not RSS. Any organization must follow the rules,” citing a 2013 order issued under BJP’s Jagadish Shettar government.

The government attributed the denial to maintaining law and order, pointing out that a Bheem Army march had also been blocked under the same regulations. This latest decision comes on the heels of several flashpoints:

  • Suspension of a Panchayat Development Officer for attending an RSS event.

  • A letter from Minister Priyank Kharge urging the Chief Minister to ban RSS activities in government institutions.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned these moves, alleging that the Congress is targeting the RSS for political vendetta. In response, the Sangh is considering legal action against the Karnataka government, emphasizing that the decision infringes upon its organizational and democratic rights.

This confrontation underscores the deepening political tensions in Karnataka, ahead of upcoming state-level elections, highlighting the ongoing struggle between government authority and organizational freedom in the state.
