Madras High Court Questions Police Inaction Over Aadhav Arjuna’s GenZ Post

The Madras High Court on Friday sharply questioned whether TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna was “above the law” after police failed to act on his controversial “GenZ Revolution” post on X, which came shortly after the September 27 Karur stampede that killed 41 people and injured over 60.

Justice N Senthilkumar criticised police inaction despite an FIR being registered and remarked, “Do people think nothing can be done to them? Do you want the court to be a mute spectator?”

Arjuna’s post urged Tamil Nadu’s youth to emulate protests in Nepal and Sri Lanka against the government, warning of a youth-led revolution, drawing criticism from leaders including DMK MP Kanimozhi, who termed it “irresponsible.” TVK clarified the post reflected Arjuna’s personal views and was promptly deleted.

The court also dismissed anticipatory bail petitions filed by senior TVK leaders Bussy Anand and CTR Nirmal Kumar in connection with the stampede. Justice Senthilkumar condemned the TVK organisers, including Vijay, for fleeing the scene and failing to take responsibility.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer Asra Garg has been ordered to probe the stampede and its handling. The court emphasised the importance of accountability and public safety, highlighting the need for police to register suo motu FIRs even without formal complaints.
