India’s javelin sensation Neeraj Chopra was present at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in Delhi to witness Sumit Antil’s stunning performance. A Stellar Performance by Sumit Antil

Sumit Antil dominated the event, leaving competitors far behind. Colombia’s Tomas Felipe Soto Mina claimed silver with a throw of 48.38m, highlighting the magnitude of Antil’s achievement. The throw not only broke the championship record but also solidified his status as India’s most decorated para javelin athlete.

Neeraj Chopra’s Inspiration and Message

Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, who has long advocated for better training facilities in India, praised the newly-laid Mondo track at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. He remarked:

"I am extremely happy that the Mondo track has been laid here because internationally we have to compete on this surface. I would love to compete on this track again."

Chopra also highlighted the contributions of Devendra Jhajharia, former Paralympic gold medallist and current Paralympic Committee of India president, emphasizing how Indian athletes have risen in javelin over the years.

"India has become a powerhouse in javelin not because of me but because of Devendra Jhajharia. Jhajharia started it, then I came into the Olympics, then Indian para athletes like Sumit and Rinku followed," he said.

Looking Ahead

With the Para World Championships now complete, Sumit Antil will take a break before beginning preparations for the Asian Games 2026, while Neeraj Chopra expressed hope to compete again on the Mondo track in Delhi.

This landmark event not only highlighted India’s growing strength in javelin but also showcased the country’s commitment to world-class facilities for para athletes.
