Netanyahu Tells Trump: America First Doesn’t Mean America Alone

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stressed that while Israel is close to ending the war in Gaza, Hamas has not yet been fully destroyed. In a wide-ranging interview with Ben Shapiro, Netanyahu offered candid insights into his relationship with Donald Trump, ongoing threats from Iran, and the priority of eliminating Hamas.

Ending Hamas and the Gaza Conflict

Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s objective: ending Hamas rule in Gaza and securing the release of 46 hostages. “We are close to ending the war – but not there yet,” he said, noting that a true victory requires the complete removal of Hamas from power.

The remarks coincide with ongoing talks in Egypt to implement Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, which includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for detained Gazans. Netanyahu highlighted Israel’s resilience since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack, saying the country emerged stronger by “shattering the Iran axis and its branches.”

Iran Missile Threat and US-Israel Alliance

Netanyahu warned Trump that Iran is developing intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the US East Coast, including Washington, New York, and Boston. He stressed that while states naturally prioritize their own security, “America First does not mean America alone.”

“Great powers need allies. Israel is a fighting ally, bearing the burden. We don’t ask for American ground troops,” Netanyahu said, reinforcing Israel’s role as a frontline partner in Middle East security.

Relationship with Trump

Despite a “warm” relationship, Netanyahu acknowledged occasional disagreements with Trump. Reports have surfaced of US frustration during private discussions, including a recent phone call following Hamas’s acceptance of parts of the Gaza peace deal. Netanyahu praised Trump’s efforts in reshaping Hamas’s approach and said, “Together we succeeded in putting the world before reality.”

Two Years of Hamas-Israel Conflict

The Gaza war, now marking its second anniversary, has killed tens of thousands in Gaza while Israeli strikes devastated Hamas infrastructure. Netanyahu emphasized that while Israel has made significant progress, Hamas continues to survive in a weakened, scattered state.

Bottom line: Netanyahu’s message highlights Israel’s strategic partnership with the US, the ongoing challenge posed by Hamas, and the looming threat from Iran’s missile program.
