Pravin Amre Urges Team Management to Give Rohit Sharma Freedom in New Role

Former India coach Pravin Amre has called on the Indian cricket team management to allow Rohit Sharma the space and time to adapt to his new role as a specialist batter after stepping down as ODI captain. Leadership duties have now been handed over to Shubman Gill following Rohit’s exit after the 2025 Champions Trophy, in which he played 56 matches and won 42.

Amre emphasized that Rohit, being one of the senior players, should be given the freedom to enjoy his batting without the additional burden of captaincy. “The more he enjoys his batting, the more of a match-winner he can become,” Amre told RevSportz.

Physical Preparation and Fitness

Highlighting Rohit’s dedication, Amre noted his extensive physical preparation ahead of this comeback. “I saw him training at BKC. A fit body will have a fit mind. He has worked hard over the last six months and reduced 10 kilos,” he said.

Focus on One Series at a Time

With uncertainties surrounding Rohit Sharma’s long-term future, including potential participation in the 2027 World Cup, Amre advised taking things one series at a time. “Let him enjoy his cricket. He does not have to prove anything now,” he added.

Rohit’s form seems promising, as he was reportedly in good touch during the first net session on October 16, 2025. Allowing him to focus solely on his batting could maximize his impact for the team in the upcoming ODI series and beyond.
