Rishabh Pant Eager for Ranji Trophy Comeback After Injury

Injured Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is keen to return to red-ball cricket, with reports suggesting he aims to make his comeback in the Ranji Trophy. Pant, who fractured his foot during India’s 5-Test tour of England, has been steadily recovering and is expected to be assessed by the BCCI medical team by October 10, according to The Times of India on Monday, October 6.

Injury Details and Recovery

Pant sustained the fracture in the Manchester Test on July 24 while attempting a reverse sweep. He retired hurt immediately but later returned to bat in a critical situation. Despite scans confirming a toe fracture, the wicketkeeper did not require surgery and was placed in a cast. Light training resumed in September, and he has been moving well since.

“As of now, there is a likelihood he could be cleared by October 10. An assessment is due this week. The BCCI medical team doesn’t want to take any chances,” a BCCI official told TOI.

Ranji Trophy Plans

Pant has reportedly confirmed his availability for Ranji Trophy matches starting October 25. If cleared, he is expected to lead the Delhi team in the red-ball tournament, according to a Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official.

International Prospects

Pant was not selected for India’s ODI and T20I squads for the Australia tour and is unlikely to feature in the T20 World Cup 2026. However, if he maintains full fitness, he could be considered for India’s home Test series against South Africa.

With his red-ball return imminent, fans and selectors alike will be watching closely as Pant looks to regain form and lead Delhi in the Ranji Trophy 2025.
