Sona Mohapatra Slams Critics Over Lollapalooza India 2026 Line-Up, Calls for More Local Artistes

Singer Sona Mohapatra has strongly criticized the defense of Lollapalooza India 2026’s line-up, highlighting the lack of Indian artists at the forefront. The upcoming festival, scheduled in Mumbai on January 24-25, 2026, features international acts like Linkin Park, Playboi Carti, and YUNGBLUD, while Indian acts such as Bloodywood appear further down the billing.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Sona Mohapatra challenged the notion that only international acts can draw large crowds in India. She wrote, "And it is your worthless, 2 paisa opinion that no Indian acts are ‘crowd pullers’ within India? That’s your low self-esteem speaking sadly. All the music festivals abroad honour their own homegrown acts and thereby build their brands upwards. We never will, thanks to attitudes like yours."

Responding to comments defending headliner choices as “business decisions,” Sona said, "Low self-esteem? Blinders? This fellow doesn’t see me speaking up for my own desi artist brethren as a worthy stand. More worried about goddess knows… acts who have enough and more headlining stages in their own western lands, no one there is shedding tears or missing Indian artistes."

She also addressed perceptions of quality, remarking, "Your inherent Western subservience is the only sad thing here. You have zero qualms in declaring their ‘superior quality’? Of course, they count on selling their wares to you wannabes."

Mohapatra emphasized that music festivals abroad usually highlight local talent as headliners and questioned why India should not do the same. Her statements underline a growing conversation about representation of homegrown talent in major Indian music festivals.
