Stones Thrown at Durga Immersion Procession in Maharashtra, 12 Detained

Tension erupted in Buldhana district, Maharashtra, during a Durga idol immersion procession, after stones were reportedly thrown at one of the participating mandals, leaving five people injured. The incident took place in Bawanbir village of Sangrampur tehsil, prompting swift police action.

The Jai Malhar Mandal, the fifth of five mandals passing through the Taj Nagar area, was targeted while playing celebratory songs. According to Chandrakant Patil, in-charge of Sonal Police Station, “Jai Malhar Mandal was passing through the area, and suddenly stone-throwing began from members of a particular community.”

Authorities acted quickly, registering a case and detaining twelve people in connection with the attack. The police confirmed that the situation is now under control, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

The incident underscores the need for heightened security during religious festivals to ensure safety and harmony in the community.
