Trump Eyes Nobel Peace Prize, Experts Say Unsung Heroes Likely Winners

US President Donald Trump has expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it an “insult” to the United States if he does not. However, experts in Oslo say Trump’s divisive style and America First policies make him highly unlikely to receive the award.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday, October 10, following daily announcements for medicine, physics, chemistry, literature, and economics prizes.

"Trump is in many ways the opposite of the ideals that the Nobel Prize represents," said historian Oeivind Stenersen.

Trump claims to have resolved six or seven wars recently, a figure experts consider exaggerated. The Nobel Committee, experts say, is more likely to recognize quiet peacemakers and local mediators in conflicts across Sudan, the Sahel, and the Horn of Africa.

Forgotten Conflicts & Candidates

  • Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms: Volunteer networks aiding war- and famine-stricken communities.

  • Journalist protection groups: Such as the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders, after a deadly year for reporters, especially in Gaza.

  • Yulia Navalnaya: Widow of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, also a strong contender.

  • Last year’s winner: Japan’s Nihon Hidankyo, nuclear weapons ban advocacy.

Literature Prize Spotlight

  • Christian Kracht, Switzerland, emerges as a favorite for the 2025 Nobel Literature Prize, with strong indications from the Swedish Academy.

  • Last year, the prize went to South Korea’s Han Kang. This year, analysts predict a winner from the Anglo-Saxon, German, or French-language world.

Nobel Week Schedule

  • Oct 6: Medicine

  • Oct 7: Physics

  • Oct 8: Chemistry

  • Oct 9: Literature

  • Oct 10: Peace Prize announcement

Trump’s bid for the Nobel remains symbolic, while experts emphasize the importance of recognizing unsung peacebuilders working quietly in global conflicts.
