US Treasury Considers Trump $1 Coin for 250th Anniversary of Independence

The US Treasury is exploring the creation of a $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump to commemorate 250 years since the United States declared independence in 2026.

Draft images reveal Trump with a raised clenched fist on one side of the coin, accompanied by the phrase “fight, fight, fight”, referencing his remarks following an assassination attempt last year. The reverse side shows Trump in profile with “liberty” above and “1776-2026” below, according to Treasurer Brandon Beach.

A Treasury spokesperson clarified that the design is still in draft stages and a final coin design has not yet been selected. Beach mentioned that further updates would follow the end of the government shutdown, which has suspended many federal operations.

Congress passed legislation in 2020 allowing the Treasury Secretary to mint $1 coins in 2026 with designs representing the semiquincentennial of the US. This follows the 1976 bicentennial $1 coin, which featured the Liberty Bell and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

When asked if Trump had seen the design, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said, “I'm not sure if he's seen it, but I'm sure he'll love it.”

The announcement has sparked discussions among coin collectors, historians, and Trump supporters, as the draft design emphasizes both historical commemoration and Trump’s personal legacy.
