Vijay Karur Rally Stampede: Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Celebs Condole Loss of 39 Lives

The Karur rally tragedy has left Tamil Nadu in shock as overcrowding and poor arrangements at actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally claimed at least 39 lives, including 10 children. The film fraternity has expressed deep grief, shock, and anger over the incident.

Hours of waiting under the scorching sun turned fatal for thousands who gathered to see the star-turned-politician. The rally, planned for around 10,000 attendees, swelled to nearly 27,000 according to police estimates. Vijay cut short his address midway as exhaustion and chaos gripped the crowd.

Kamal Haasan said the news left his “heart trembling” and urged the Tamil Nadu government to provide medical care and relief for survivors. Rajinikanth called the deaths “immensely grievous” and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

Actor Vishal criticised the rally’s handling, terming the deaths “utter nonsense” and urged TVK to provide compensation. Filmmaker Pa Ranjith described it as a “great tragedy that shocks the heart,” while Khushbu Sundar termed it “very unfortunate” and prayed for the injured. GV Prakash said the “horrific scenes” left him “at a loss for words.”

The tragedy has raised serious concerns about event planning and crowd management. Organisers admitted lapses, noting discrepancies in timing communicated to the public, which led to early arrivals without sufficient food, water, or shelter.

TVK Chief Vijay posted on social media: “My heart is shattered. I am in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow.”

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability and better safety measures at political events in Tamil Nadu.
