BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has criticised Rahul Gandhi over his reported Vietnam trip, accusing the Congress leader of encouraging protests before travelling abroad. His remarks come amid a political dispute over the Opposition’s demonstrations against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Dubey questioned Gandhi’s foreign visits and alleged that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha had travelled abroad 270 times over the past decade. He also asked why Gandhi had travelled to Vietnam and whom he had met during his overseas visits.
The allegations were made by Dubey and were not independently established in the information provided.
Dubey Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Overseas Meetings
Dubey also raised questions about Gandhi’s meetings with US lawmakers Ilhan Omar and Ro Khanna. Referring to Omar’s reported remarks on Kashmir and her visit to Pakistan, the BJP MP questioned the circumstances surrounding Gandhi’s meeting with her.
He further referred to reports concerning scrutiny of Omar’s family by the Trump administration and asked whether Gandhi had met the US lawmaker at someone’s direction.
Dubey did not provide evidence in the quoted remarks to substantiate the implication behind his questions.
BJP Criticises Opposition Protests Over SIR
The BJP MP also attacked the Opposition’s recent demonstrations in Delhi, claiming that the protests had created an impression that rules and laws were not being followed in the capital.
He criticised the protesters’ use of the national flag, alleging that its dignity had not been respected during the demonstrations. Dubey also accused Gandhi of attending social engagements before participating in sit-in protests.
The BJP’s criticism follows demonstrations by Opposition parties against the Election Commission’s SIR exercise, which has become a point of political contention.
Sambit Patra Alleges Political Conspiracy
On Tuesday, the BJP shared a video on X that purportedly showed Gandhi aboard a flight to Vietnam. The party accused him of going on a holiday after the Opposition protests.
BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra also criticised Gandhi on Thursday, alleging that the Congress was attempting to create unrest and pursue “regime change” without elections.
These statements reflect the BJP’s allegations against the Congress leadership. The claims of inciting unrest and conspiring to bring about regime change were not established by the information provided.
