Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over the scheduling of a major rally on November 1. During a press conference, Prasad questioned the timing and motive behind the event, alleging that holding it on the date could hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.

Prasad accused Gandhi of deliberately choosing the date and claimed that the decision could be an attempt to provoke tensions. His remarks have brought attention to the political controversy surrounding the planned rally and its timing.

BJP Highlights Modi Government’s Initiatives

During the press conference, Prasad referred to measures undertaken by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he said reflected its commitment to Sikh heritage and remembrance.

He cited the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and Veer Bal Diwas as examples of initiatives associated with Sikh religious and historical significance. Against this backdrop, the BJP leader questioned why the Congress leadership had insisted on holding its rally on November 1.

Prasad also raised concerns about the possibility of disruption in Delhi, asking whether Gandhi’s political strategy could lead to unrest. However, the remarks presented were allegations made by the BJP leader, and no evidence establishing such an intention was provided in the account.

Prasad Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Conduct

Prasad further criticised Gandhi’s approach towards constitutional institutions, accusing him of displaying what he described as an “anarchist mindset.” He referred to demonstrations targeting the judiciary and the Supreme Court while questioning the Congress leader’s respect for institutional processes.

The BJP MP also questioned whether Gandhi was aligning with external forces hostile to India to portray the country’s democracy negatively on the international stage. These claims formed part of Prasad’s political criticism during the press conference.

Political Tensions Ahead of the Rally

The remarks underscore the continuing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress over public events, national institutions and competing political narratives.

The controversy centres on the November 1 rally and the BJP leader’s allegations about its timing and potential impact. Further clarity on the event’s programme and the Congress leadership’s response would be needed to assess the dispute beyond the claims made during the press conference.
