Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan from August 29 to September 1, with the trip focused on strengthening India’s ties with Central Asia and advancing cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, defence, energy and regional security.
The visit begins in Uzbekistan, where the Prime Minister will undertake a state visit to Tashkent for bilateral discussions with the Uzbek leadership. The talks are expected to focus on expanding economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Trade and investment will be key areas of engagement, alongside digital connectivity, defence cooperation and energy partnerships. The visit is also aimed at strengthening broader strategic ties between India and Uzbekistan.
PM MODI TO HIGHLIGHT INDIA-UZBEKISTAN CIVILISATIONAL TIES
During his stay in Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Center at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
The engagements are intended to highlight the longstanding historical and civilisational links between India and Uzbekistan, while reinforcing people-to-people and cultural connections between the two countries.
The Uzbek leg of the visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to explore new areas of cooperation as India seeks to deepen its engagement with Central Asian nations.
PM MODI TO ATTEND SCO SUMMIT IN BISHKEK
Following his Uzbekistan visit, Modi will travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to participate in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
The summit comes as the Eurasian grouping marks 25 years and is expected to bring regional leaders together to discuss security, economic cooperation and connectivity.
Regional security will be a major focus, with discussions expected to cover collective efforts against terrorism, separatism and extremism.
India is also expected to emphasise the importance of stronger connectivity and expanded trade links across the region.
TRADE AND CONNECTIVITY ON SCO AGENDA
The Prime Minister’s participation in the SCO Summit provides India with an opportunity to engage with key Eurasian countries on economic and strategic issues.
Connectivity is expected to remain an important component of the discussions as countries explore transport and economic corridors linking Central Asia with Eurasia and West Asia.
For India, stronger connectivity with Central Asia can create opportunities for greater trade, investment and access to emerging regional markets.
The visit also reflects New Delhi’s broader effort to strengthen strategic partnerships across Central Asia and contribute to regional stability.
PM MODI TO ATTEND WORLD NOMAD GAMES
During his Kyrgyzstan visit, Prime Minister Modi will also attend the opening ceremony of the sixth World Nomad Games.
The event will provide another platform for cultural and people-to-people engagement between India and the Central Asian region.
The visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is therefore expected to combine bilateral diplomacy with wider regional engagement through the SCO.
By focusing on trade, connectivity, defence, energy and security, India aims to strengthen its strategic partnerships in Central Asia while exploring new economic corridors connecting the region with Eurasia and West Asia.
