PM Modi Likely to Visit US for G20 Summit, Canada Bilateral Trip in December

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to travel to the United States in December to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will be hosted by US President Donald Trump in Florida. Modi is also likely to hold a bilateral meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the summit.

The US visit is expected to be followed by Modi’s bilateral trip to Canada, where discussions are likely to focus on strengthening India-Canada relations. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had invited Modi to visit Canada during his March 2026 visit to India, when the two countries announced plans to expand cooperation in trade, energy, technology, talent and defence.

The two governments have since continued efforts to improve bilateral engagement, including negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and discussions on energy, defence and security cooperation. In June, Modi and Carney agreed to work through diplomatic channels towards a mutually convenient date for the Indian prime minister’s Canada visit.

The proposed visits come as India, the US and Canada continue engagement on trade, strategic partnerships and economic cooperation.
