Udit Narayan Controversy: First Wife Files Complaint Alleging Surgery Without Consent in Bihar

Playback singer Udit Narayan has come under fresh scrutiny after his first wife, Ranjana Narayan Jha, lodged a formal complaint at a women’s police station in Bihar’s Supaul district, raising serious allegations against the singer, members of his family and his second wife. Authorities have confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation, with officials reviewing the claims before deciding on further legal action.

According to the complaint, Ranjana Narayan Jha alleged that a surgical procedure involving the removal of her uterus was carried out decades ago without her consent. She claimed that the surgery took place during a medical visit arranged by individuals she has named in her statement and that she only became aware of the procedure years later during subsequent medical treatment. The allegations remain unverified, and no formal charges have been confirmed at this stage.

In her submission to the police, Ranjana stated that she married Udit Narayan in 1984 following traditional Hindu rituals. She further alleged that after the singer moved to Mumbai to pursue his career, she later learned through media reports that he had married Deepa Narayan. She claimed that repeated attempts to seek clarity regarding her marital status and personal circumstances led to ongoing disputes over the years.

The complaint also outlines incidents that allegedly occurred in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including claims that she faced verbal mistreatment and was denied access to the singer’s residence. She stated that she subsequently returned to her parental home and has since been living there. Additionally, she mentioned previous legal proceedings in family court and approaches made to relevant commissions in the past.

Police officials have indicated that many of the incidents described in the complaint date back nearly three decades, making the investigation complex. Authorities stated that they are carefully examining the allegations and will determine whether an FIR will be registered based on the findings of the inquiry. As of now, there has been no public response from Udit Narayan or the individuals named in the complaint regarding the latest claims.

The controversy has generated significant attention within the entertainment industry, given Narayan’s long-standing career as one of India’s most recognised playback singers. However, legal experts emphasise that the allegations represent one side of the dispute and that due process will determine the next steps.

As the investigation progresses, the case highlights the sensitivity of long-pending personal disputes resurfacing through legal channels. Further updates are expected once authorities complete their preliminary assessment and decide on the course of action.
