Will India Women Receive Asia Cup Trophy if They Win? Mohsin Naqvi Expected at Final

India Women could face an unusual trophy presentation scenario at the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final in Dubai if they go on to win the tournament, with Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi expected to attend the closing ceremony.

Naqvi is reportedly set to be the chief guest at the September 13 final and could be involved in presenting the trophy to the champions. His expected presence has drawn attention because of the controversy surrounding the trophy presentation after India’s victory in the men’s Asia Cup final last year.

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the 2025 men’s Asia Cup final in Dubai, but the celebrations were overshadowed by a prolonged delay to the presentation ceremony. The Indian team had reportedly indicated that they did not wish to receive the trophy from Naqvi and were willing to accept it from a neutral official.

The situation remained unresolved, and the trophy was ultimately not handed over during the ceremony. India celebrated their title without receiving the silverware on the podium, creating one of the most unusual moments in the tournament’s history.

A similar question could now emerge if the Indian women’s team reaches the final and wins the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup. Naqvi also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan’s interior minister, adding further attention to any potential trophy presentation involving the Indian team.

However, there has been no official indication from the Indian women’s team or the BCCI regarding how they would approach such a situation.

For now, India Women remain focused on their strong campaign on the field. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team has reached the semi-finals without losing a match after registering dominant victories over Thailand, Hong Kong and Pakistan.

India began their campaign with a comprehensive 94-run win over Thailand before producing an even bigger victory against Hong Kong. Smriti Mandhana scored a record-breaking 124 off 64 balls as India posted 193 for five before bowling Hong Kong out for 56.

India then continued their unbeaten run with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Pakistan. Pakistan were dismissed for just 55, with Sree Charani and Prema Rawat taking three wickets each. India chased down the target in only 8.4 overs to strengthen their position in the tournament.

With the Indian women’s team now safely through to the knockout stage, attention will remain on their quest for the Asia Cup title.
