Anupam Kher Says Naseeruddin Shah Apologised for Their 2020 Feud: “Sorry Yaar” Moment Ends Rift

Veteran actors Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, who were once embroiled in a widely publicised feud in 2020, appear to have moved toward reconciliation. What began as a clash over political views and escalated into sharp public comments has now taken a softer turn, with Shah reportedly extending a personal apology.

During a conversation on Unfiltered by Samdish, Kher shared that the two met recently at filmmaker HD Pathak’s memorial service, where Shah approached him warmly and said, “Sorry yaar!” Kher recalled that the moment felt genuine, adding that Shah even hugged him upon greeting.

Kher spoke candidly about the equation between them, saying he still respects Shah deeply despite their differences. “Sometimes he has loose-talk conversations about me,” he said, acknowledging that some of Shah’s remarks in the past were perplexing.

The duo’s rift had intensified after Shah praised Deepika Padukone for visiting JNU students and criticised Kher’s political stance in an interview, calling him “a clown… it’s in his blood.” Kher responded strongly on X (formerly Twitter), accusing Shah of harbouring frustration and letting substances cloud his judgment.

Despite this history, Kher emphasised that he continues to admire Shah as a performer and a significant influence on his own acting journey. He suggested that Shah may be dealing with emotional complexities, noting that his criticisms have occasionally targeted icons like Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna as well.

The actors last worked together in Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary (2018). Their recent interaction hints at a more cordial chapter ahead.
