Ayushmann Khurrana Explains ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ Chant in Udta Teer

Ayushmann Khurrana has addressed the use of the “Pakistan Zindabad” chant in his upcoming film Udta Teer, explaining that the dialogue is part of the script and his approach as an actor is to follow what the role and story require.

At the film’s trailer launch, Khurrana was asked about playing Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani agent who loses his memory during a mission and begins believing that he is Indian. The actor said such moments have appeared in spy films before, but Udta Teer presents the idea through a spy comedy. He described the film as a mix of espionage, patriotism, comedy and different genres.

Directed by debutant Akash A Kaushik, the film revolves around Bilal’s identity confusion after an explosion causes him to lose his memory. While retaining his sense of patriotism, he becomes convinced that he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer, leaving his Pakistani handlers struggling to understand his transformation.

The film also stars Sara Ali Khan, Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor, Raghubir Yadav, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Smita Tambe, Brijendra Kala and Sandeep Anand.

Udta Teer also features Mukul Dev in his final on-screen appearance. Khurrana described the film as a tribute to the late actor, while director Kaushik recalled Dev’s contribution to the project and his concern about how audiences would respond to his performance.

Produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer is scheduled to release in theatres on October 9, 2026.
