Bengal SIR Drive: Election Commission Flags Nearly 14 Lakh Voter Forms as Uncollectable

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has flagged nearly 14 lakh SIR (Special Intensive Revision) enumeration forms in West Bengal as “uncollectable”, citing issues such as absentee voters, duplicate entries, deceased individuals and people who have permanently relocated.

An election official said that as of Tuesday noon, the number of uncollectable forms stood at 13.92 lakh, a sharp rise from 10.33 lakh on Monday evening. The official added that the figure is expected to increase daily as more updated reports continue to arrive from across the state.

Massive Workforce Deployed

To conduct the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, West Bengal has deployed:

  • 80,600+ Booth Level Officers (BLOs)

  • 8,000 supervisors

  • 3,000 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers

  • 294 Electoral Registration Officers

These officials have been responsible for distributing SIR forms and collecting voter information as part of the revision drive.

The continuous update and verification process, officials said, is aimed at ensuring an accurate, transparent and error-free electoral roll before upcoming elections.
