Iran has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of orchestrating what it described as a Flydubai false flag operation involving flight FZ1073. The allegation was made in a Press TV report and has not been independently established.
What Iran claims about the Flydubai incident
According to the Iranian report, the cockpit incident was allegedly designed to divert attention from scrutiny surrounding Netanyahu’s handling of the October 7 Hamas attack, strengthen his political position ahead of Israel’s October 27 election and create a justification for renewed military action against Iran.
The report also linked the allegation to Netanyahu’s reported meeting with Sheikh Mohamed in Abu Dhabi shortly before the flight incident. However, the claims rely on an unnamed source and no evidence has publicly established that the incident was deliberately staged.
Flydubai flight FZ1073 was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30 when an altercation occurred inside the cockpit. The aircraft issued emergency signals and made a sharp descent before diverting to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The flight carried more than 170 people, who were ultimately brought to safety. Investigations by authorities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Israel are continuing.
Israel rejects false flag allegations
Israel has rejected conspiracy theories claiming that the incident was staged. Israeli officials have instead described the episode as an apparent attempted attack involving the Omani co-pilot. Israeli security officials have assessed that he likely acted alone, while investigations into his motive and any possible external links remain ongoing.
The allegations have also spread rapidly across social media, prompting fact-checking efforts as investigators continue examining what happened. ABC News Verify reported that claims portraying the incident as an Israeli-planned operation circulated widely while the investigation was still in its early stages.
US President Donald Trump has separately said Iran could have been connected to the incident, but no Iranian link has been established by investigators so far. The competing claims underline how quickly the Flydubai incident has become part of the wider geopolitical tensions surrounding Israel and Iran.
