Imran Khan Alive and Healthy, Says Adiala Jail After Death Rumours Spark Violent Protests

A day after violent protests erupted outside Pakistan’s Adiala Jail over rumours claiming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had died in custody, the prison authorities issued a formal clarification, asserting that he is alive, healthy, and still lodged inside the facility.

According to Geo News, the jail administration dismissed all speculation regarding Imran Khan’s condition as “baseless,” adding that the PTI founder was receiving “complete medical attention” and had not been transferred out of Adiala.

“There is no truth to reports about his transfer. He is fully healthy,” the officials stated. Imran Khan, jailed for over two years in multiple corruption and terrorism cases, has been kept in solitary confinement, according to repeated allegations by his sisters and family members.

Protests Intensify Outside Adiala Jail

Chaos unfolded on Wednesday as Imran Khan’s sisters—Noreen Khan (Niazi), Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan—led a sit-in protest near the Adiala Jail checkpoint, accusing authorities of repeatedly denying family visits despite court orders.

Although the Islamabad High Court has allowed Khan’s family to meet him twice a week, his sisters allege they have been blocked from doing so for several weeks.

Thousands of PTI supporters later joined the demonstration, leading to violent clashes and reports of attempts to breach the jail premises. The standoff ended only after police and jail officials assured Aleema Khan that a meeting would be arranged. She is expected to see Imran Khan later today and again next Tuesday.

Last week, the sisters staged a similar protest, claiming they were manhandled, dragged across the street and briefly detained by authorities.

Government Claims Imran Khan Enjoys ‘VIP Facilities’

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif countered the family’s allegations, insisting that the former prime minister is being given preferential treatment in jail.

“Check the menu of his food—it is better than what a five-star hotel serves,” Asif told Geo News. He added that Imran Khan has access to a television, gym equipment, a double bed and even a velvet mattress.

Asif contrasted these privileges with his own imprisonment in the past, where he said he slept on cold floors, had limited blankets and survived on standard jail food.

“We had no hot water, no mattress, nothing. The superintendent personally ensured the removal of the geyser from my cell,” he claimed, accusing the PTI of exaggerating Imran’s alleged mistreatment.

Despite the political back-and-forth, the situation outside Adiala Jail remains tense, with PTI leaders warning of further protests if visitation rights continue to be blocked.
