Imran Khan Is Alive and in Solitary Confinement, Says Sister After Jail Visit

Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan met the jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, putting an end to widespread rumours about his death in custody. Her visit came as supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) prepared for large-scale demonstrations across Rawalpindi, despite restrictions on public gatherings.

According to Geo News, Uzma Khan was escorted inside the prison amid heightened security and growing speculation that Imran Khan had been murdered while in detention.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, she clarified that the former PM is alive and in stable health but is being subjected to harsh conditions.

“Imran Khan is fine, his health is good. But he has been kept in solitary confinement and is being mentally tortured,” she said. She added that Imran complained he had been denied all contact with the outside world. “He said they are mentally torturing him. He is angry and said Asim Munir is responsible for everything happening.”

Earlier reports suggested that authorities had allowed the visit under strict gag conditions, but Uzma denied this, saying, “We don’t go by conditions.”

Rumours about Imran Khan’s death intensified last week after his family was repeatedly denied visitation rights despite court orders. His sisters claimed he was being kept in a “death cell” and that officials were concealing “something irreversible” about his condition.

The situation led PTI members and supporters to call for massive protests in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, demanding immediate restoration of visitation rights. In response, the Shehbaz Sharif government enforced a ban on large gatherings and turned Rawalpindi into a heavily guarded zone.

Adiala Jail and its surrounding areas were placed on high alert, with more than 700 security personnel deployed and multiple checkpoints established. Last week, tensions escalated when Imran Khan’s sisters alleged that they were dragged, manhandled and briefly detained by police during protests.

Despite the unrest, the government and jail authorities continued to insist that the former PM was receiving adequate medical care. “There is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala Jail. He is fully healthy,” the administration said.

Uzma Khan’s meeting with her brother briefly eased tensions but renewed concerns about the conditions under which the former prime minister is being held as he faces a long list of corruption and terrorism charges.
