North India Flood Alert: Rivers Swell in UP and Bihar, Villages Submerged

Heavy rainfall has triggered a flood alert across parts of North India, with rising river levels and overflowing reservoirs causing widespread flooding in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Several villages and residential areas have been submerged, while rescue and relief teams remain on standby as more rainfall is forecast.

In Uttar Pradesh, overflowing dams in Lalitpur and rising water levels in the Ganga and Yamuna have inundated several areas. Prayagraj, Varanasi and Kanpur are among the cities affected by the worsening flood situation.

Nearly 3.5 lakh people across 26 districts of Uttar Pradesh have reportedly been affected by flooding and waterlogging. Rising river levels have increased concerns for residents living in low-lying areas, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.

Bihar is also facing a serious flood threat, with eight districts remaining on alert as the Ganga and other rivers continue to swell. Floodwaters have submerged areas in Patna's Danapur Dihra block and parts of Begusarai and the Kosi region.

Several villages have been cut off by rising water, leaving residents dependent on relief and rescue operations. Authorities have deployed State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and local rescue teams in vulnerable areas to assist affected families and respond to emergencies.

With further rainfall forecast across parts of North India, officials are maintaining a close watch on river and reservoir levels. The flood situation could worsen in low-lying areas if heavy rain continues, increasing the risk of further inundation and disruption.

Authorities have urged people living near rivers and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow official safety instructions as rescue teams prepare for possible additional evacuations and relief operations.
