India are closing in on victory in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo as Shubman Gill’s side looks to complete a 2-0 series sweep. Sri Lanka resumed Day 5 after being forced to follow on, with India needing the remaining wickets before chasing a potentially modest target.

At the latest update, Sri Lanka had reached 247 for 6 in their second innings, taking their overall lead to 44 runs. Sonal Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha were attempting to extend Sri Lanka’s resistance as India continued searching for the final four wickets.

India remain firmly in control of the match, but rain in Colombo has emerged as the biggest obstacle to a result. Weather forecasts had already indicated a significant possibility of interruptions on the final day, increasing the pressure on India to take the remaining wickets quickly.

A victory in Colombo would give Shubman Gill his first away Test series win as captain and complete a clean sweep for India. India had already taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series before arriving for the second Test.

With Sri Lanka’s lower order continuing to resist, India’s immediate objective is clear: take the final four wickets as quickly as possible, limit the target and complete the chase before rain can significantly disrupt play.
