Navdeep Singh wins silver as India finishes with record medal haul

India capped off a historic World Para Athletics Championships on October 5 with their best-ever medal tally, winning 22 medals at the 2025 edition, the first time the country hosted the event. Among the stars was javelin thrower Navdeep Singh, who roared to silver in the men’s F41 category at the JLN Stadium, following his iconic gold at the Paris Paralympics.

Navdeep’s best attempt of 45.46m earned him the silver medal, trailing only Iran's Sadegh Beit Sayah. The 24-year-old celebrated amidst cheering crowds, reminiscent of his viral Paris Paralympics moment.

Other medalists included Preethi Pal, who won silver in the women’s 100m T35 despite a starter pistol malfunction, Simran Sharma, who battled exhaustion to claim silver in the women’s 200m T12, and Sandeep, who set a personal best of 23.60 seconds to take bronze in the men’s 200m T44.

India’s final tally stood at 6 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze medals, securing 10th place overall. The championships were led by Brazil (44 medals), followed by China (52 medals) and Iran (16 medals).
