Marnus Labuschagne Century Ashes 2025 Recall

Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne continued his outstanding run of form with his fourth century in five innings for Queensland, strengthening his case for a recall to Australia’s Test squad ahead of the Ashes 2025.

The 31-year-old reached 144 not out from 163 balls on day two of Queensland’s Sheffield Shield clash against South Australia at Adelaide Oval, guiding his side to 254 for 3, after South Australia were dismissed for 228.

Labuschagne came in at No.3, demonstrating poise and control by driving pacers through the covers and playing spinners elegantly to mid-on and mid-wicket. His innings included 17 boundaries and a six, and he brought up his century with a clipped boundary off Liam Scott, receiving congratulations from Test wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

Path to Ashes Recall

Dropped from the Test side in June after a slump in form, Labuschagne has responded strongly this summer with back-to-back hundreds in red-ball cricket, building on his earlier 160 against Tasmania. His consistent performances have made him the likely candidate to replace Sam Konstas for the Ashes opener in Perth on 21 November, after Konstas again struggled in domestic cricket.

Labuschagne reflected on his resurgence, stating,

“I'm very confident. I'm confident I'm going to score runs consistently and find myself back in that team for the first Test. Leading up to that point is a process, and consistent performances are what selectors want to see.”

Ashes and Batting Strategy

Queensland captain Labuschagne prefers the No.3 spot, where he has anchored both his domestic and Test innings. He emphasized adapting to modern bowling strategies:

“People are bowling more in the channel now, attacking with straighter lines and leg-side fields. I’ve got to be patient or find ways to put the opposition under pressure. I want to play my natural attacking game.”

Labuschagne’s recent form, coupled with his experience and tactical maturity, positions him as a key figure for Australia as they prepare to reclaim the Ashes.
