The Piyush Mishra Naseeruddin Shah controversy has intensified after veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah appeared at a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in Mumbai. Actor-writer Piyush Mishra subsequently shared a video addressing Shah and questioned why the actor had not spoken publicly about several other recent issues.
Shah attended a CJP demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, where protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Following the event, Mishra directly addressed Shah in a social media video and raised a series of questions.
Mishra Mentions Smit Machchhar
One of the issues highlighted by Mishra was the reported incident involving Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar. Mishra asked Shah to also comment on the pilot’s reported actions during an alleged cockpit attack on a Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
According to Mishra, Machchhar showed bravery during the incident and helped prevent a potentially serious disaster. Mishra urged Shah to acknowledge the incident and congratulate the pilot.
Student Protests Also Enter the Debate
Mishra also referred to Shah’s earlier comments about student movements. He questioned the veteran actor over his response to recent student protests and police action at Lovely Professional University.
Mishra recalled Shah’s earlier remarks about students being an important influence on him and questioned the context in which those comments were made.
The actor-writer also referred to a previous interaction involving relief efforts in Jharkhand. Mishra claimed that when he had sought help from Shah, the actor had responded with a poem rather than material assistance. Mishra said people affected on the ground needed essentials such as food supplies.
No Response From Naseeruddin Shah Yet
Mishra has previously participated in student-related protests, including travelling to Jharkhand to express solidarity with protesting students.
So far, Naseeruddin Shah or his representatives have not publicly responded to Mishra’s latest remarks.
The latest exchange comes as the CJP continues its campaign against the Election Commission. The party has announced plans for a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 if its demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation is not met.
