PM Modi Condemns UAE Attack, Backs De-escalation Amid Iran Conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday strongly condemned the recent attacks on the United Arab Emirates and expressed solidarity with the Gulf nation during a phone conversation with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In a message shared on social media, PM Modi said he conveyed India’s support to the UAE during what he described as a difficult period. He condemned the attacks and expressed condolences over the loss of lives. The Prime Minister also reiterated India’s firm support for de-escalation, regional peace, security and stability amid the rapidly escalating tensions in West Asia.

The development comes against the backdrop of rising hostilities following reported Iranian strikes targeting areas in the UAE over the past two days. According to official figures cited by authorities, three people were killed and 58 others injured in the attacks. Among the injured was an Indian national.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE confirmed that it is in touch with hospital authorities and is providing assistance to the affected Indian citizen. Officials stated that the injured individual is out of danger and receiving necessary medical care.

The UAE is home to over 3.5 million Indians, making it one of the largest overseas Indian communities in the world. In his conversation, PM Modi thanked President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community residing in the country.

Authorities in the UAE reported that their air defence systems intercepted a majority of incoming threats. The UAE Defence Ministry said it successfully destroyed a significant number of ballistic missiles and drones launched during the attacks, preventing further damage.

The escalation is part of a broader regional conflict that intensified after the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a coordinated airstrike attributed to the United States and Israel. The situation has heightened security concerns across the Gulf region, with diplomatic missions advising caution.

The US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the US Consulate in Dubai have reportedly advised their personnel to remain sheltered as a precautionary measure.

India has consistently called for restraint and diplomatic engagement in the region. PM Modi’s outreach to the UAE leadership highlights India’s strategic partnership with the Gulf nation and its commitment to protecting the interests of Indian citizens abroad.

As tensions continue to unfold, New Delhi is closely monitoring developments while maintaining communication with regional partners to ensure the safety of Indian nationals and promote stability.
