Actor Ranbir Kapoor has shared a significant update on Animal Park, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Animal, confirming that the film will not begin production until 2027. The update offers clarity to fans who have been eagerly awaiting news on the next chapter of the hyper-successful franchise.
In a recent interaction, Ranbir revealed that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is currently occupied with another project, pushing the sequel’s production timeline further ahead. While Animal Park is firmly in development, Kapoor confirmed that it remains a long-term project rather than an immediate one.
Speaking about the delay, Ranbir explained that Vanga is deeply involved in his next directorial venture and prefers to begin Animal Park only once that commitment is complete. As a result, filming for the sequel is expected to commence sometime in 2027. The actor acknowledged that while the wait may feel long, the creative ambition behind the project makes the timeline worthwhile.
Ranbir also offered insight into the scale and vision of the sequel, revealing that Animal Park is envisioned as part of an even larger narrative. According to him, Vanga has expressed interest in expanding the Animal universe into multiple instalments. The sequel, titled Animal Park, would form the second chapter of a potential trilogy, further deepening the film’s morally complex and psychologically intense world.
One of the most intriguing revelations from Ranbir was his confirmation that he will be playing a dual role in the sequel. Unlike the first film, where he portrayed Ranvijay Singh, the sequel will reportedly see him step into both protagonist and antagonist roles. This narrative shift is expected to significantly raise the dramatic stakes and push the franchise into darker, more layered territory.
Ranbir described the creative discussions with Vanga as ongoing since the making of the first film. He noted that the director has been gradually shaping the future arc of the story, sharing ideas rather than locking a final script at this stage. According to the actor, the sequel promises a bold evolution in storytelling, maintaining the raw intensity of Animal while exploring new psychological dimensions.
Released in 2023, Animal emerged as one of the most talked-about Hindi films in recent years. The film explored an obsessive father-son relationship through a violent and emotionally charged lens, with Ranbir’s performance drawing both acclaim and controversy. The film starred Anil Kapoor as the authoritarian father figure and became a massive box-office success, cementing its place as a pop-culture phenomenon.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor’s professional calendar remains packed with high-profile projects. He is currently working on Love and War, a period drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, which is scheduled for release in 2026. Additionally, he will portray Lord Ram in Ramayana: Part One, directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
With Animal Park positioned as a future cornerstone of Hindi cinema’s evolving action-drama landscape, Ranbir’s confirmation sets realistic expectations for fans. While the wait extends to 2027, the scale, ambition, and narrative complexity promised by the makers suggest that the sequel aims to surpass the impact of its predecessor.
