Why Donald Trump Is the Most Dangerous President of the Modern Era

One year into his second term, Donald Trump has transformed global politics into a volatile mix of spectacle, coercion, and unpredictability. Traditional diplomacy has taken a back seat, replaced by personal ego, transactional threats, and a governing style that blurs the line between raw power and political parody. In Trump’s world, nothing feels off-limits—territories, trade routes, alliances, or even international norms.

Trump has made tariffs his preferred weapon, using them not merely as economic tools but as instruments of intimidation. His trade policies have extended beyond rival nations to include symbolic and absurd targets, reinforcing the sense that under his leadership, economic coercion has become a reflex rather than a strategy. Allies and adversaries alike are treated the same way: comply or face punishment.

What sets Trump apart from his predecessors is not just his policies, but his method. He governs through impulse. He announces major decisions on social media, threatens countries through posts, and often forces governments to react to statements before any formal diplomatic process even begins. His platform, Truth Social, has effectively replaced press briefings, with global consequences unfolding tweet by tweet.

Trump’s hunger for attention is inseparable from his politics. He openly claims credit for ending wars, promotes himself as a peacemaker, and seeks validation on the world stage with relentless intensity. Even controversies are treated as currency. Whether it is sharing screenshots of private messages from leaders like Emmanuel Macron or boasting about international interventions, Trump ensures that global discourse revolves around him.

His immigration policies have been among the most visually and emotionally charged. Millions of undocumented migrants have been deported, many in chains, with images deliberately circulated to send a message. Countries that resisted accepting deportees were threatened with tariffs, turning humanitarian issues into leverage points. Cooperation was no longer negotiated—it was enforced.

India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has publicly noted that Trump represents a sharp departure from conventional statecraft. In this new reality, a single statement—or tweet—can alter geopolitical equations overnight. Uncertainty has become a defining feature of the global order.

Trump’s fixation on territorial expansion marks another dangerous shift. His repeated interest in Greenland is framed in terms of security, but often sounds like a real-estate pitch. The idea that sovereign land can be acquired through pressure signals a break from post-war norms and emboldens other leaders with expansionist ambitions.

Equally troubling is Trump’s personal conduct. Past allegations, criminal cases involving hush money, and public comments on pop culture and adult entertainment continue to surface alongside matters of state. The boundaries between private impulse and presidential authority appear increasingly porous.

Trump governs as if leadership were a reality show—loud, confrontational, and constantly escalating. Volume replaces nuance. Threats replace negotiation. Attention replaces accountability. His approach risks normalising aggression as governance and coercion as diplomacy.

The real danger lies beyond Trump himself. His style sets a precedent. Future leaders may feel compelled to match or exceed his aggression to appear strong. Others, frustrated by his unpredictability, may respond with equal hostility. The long-term impact on global stability remains uncertain.

Trump may not be the storm, but he controls the weather—erratic, loud, and impossible to ignore. And as the world braces for the remainder of his term, one question looms large: what happens when unpredictability becomes the norm rather than the exception?
