Zoho’s Arattai to Work on Low-End Phones, Low Bandwidth: Sridhar Vembu

Zoho Chief Scientist Sridhar Vembu has revealed plans to make the company’s homegrown messaging app, Arattai, accessible on low-end smartphones and networks with bandwidth as low as 8 kilobits per second.

Launched in beta in 2021, Arattai entered the market when WhatsApp faced scrutiny over privacy concerns, aiming to offer a secure and private communication alternative.

“We want to provide outstanding privacy, security, and ease of use,” Vembu stated on social media. “The app is updated weekly, and many expected features will be fully integrated in the coming month.”

Investments in Infrastructure
Vembu also highlighted that Zoho plans to invest further in infrastructure to scale the app and ensure smooth functionality even under challenging network conditions.

Earlier, Zoho’s VP of Marketing and Customer Experience, Praval Singh, said the company is focusing on infrastructure and usability improvements to enhance the overall experience for users. “These upgrades are part of our commitment to offer a trustworthy communication platform with privacy at its core,” Singh added.

Government Support
Indian leaders have also endorsed the use of homegrown platforms. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared his move to Zoho’s B2C messaging app, Arattai, encouraging others to support India-made digital solutions.

With these developments, Zoho aims to make Arattai a global messaging leader, combining swadeshi innovation with top-tier privacy and usability.
