Avatar: Fire & Ash Box Office Day 3: Dhurandhar Overshadows Cameron Film in India

Avatar: Fire & Ash, directed by James Cameron, registered a modest opening at the Indian box office, but the film’s performance has been largely overshadowed by the continued dominance of Dhurandhar.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Avatar: Fire & Ash closed its opening weekend with a total net collection of Rs 66.65 crore in India. While the film managed to post double-digit figures across all three days, it struggled to gain momentum amid strong competition.

The third instalment of the globally successful Avatar franchise collected Rs 19 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 22.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 25.4 crore on Sunday. Despite a gradual upward trend, the numbers remained significantly lower compared to ongoing releases in the domestic market.

In contrast, Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, continues its extraordinary run. The film has crossed the Rs 550 crore nett mark in India by the end of its third weekend. Notably, Dhurandhar earned more on its third Sunday alone than Avatar: Fire & Ash did on its opening day.

The Ranveer Singh-starrer collected Rs 38.25 crore on its third Sunday, Rs 34.25 crore on Saturday, and Rs 22.5 crore on Friday, taking its 17-day India total to approximately Rs 555.5 crore nett.

Trade analysts note that Avatar: Fire & Ash has received mixed responses from audiences and critics, which may further impact its box-office trajectory. However, in India, the primary challenge remains the unprecedented hold of Dhurandhar, which continues to draw large crowds even in its third week.

With Dhurandhar maintaining strong footfalls and Avatar: Fire & Ash facing stiff competition, the Indian box office landscape currently reflects a clear shift in audience preference.
