Avengers Endgame Encore has helped the Marvel blockbuster reclaim the global box-office crown, pushing Avengers: Endgame past James Cameron's Avatar once again. The latest re-release has given the 2019 film enough momentum to return to the top more than six years after it first claimed the record.
According to Box Office Mojo figures cited in the report, Avengers: Endgame now stands at approximately $2.9255 billion worldwide, equivalent to around Rs 2.81 lakh crore. Avatar follows closely with approximately $2.9237 billion, making the difference between the two films extremely narrow.
Endgame Encore Gives Marvel Another Box-Office Boost
The latest comeback has been driven by Avengers: Endgame Encore, which returned to theatres ahead of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The re-release has performed strongly across several international markets.
In the United States, the film opened with around $26.1 million in its first weekend. Its second weekend added another $4.4 million. Worldwide, the re-release has generated approximately $126 million, including $36.2 million from North America and $89.8 million from international markets.
China has emerged as one of the strongest overseas markets, contributing around $21.3 million. The film also became the leading non-local release in countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, Ecuador and Bolivia.
India also contributed to the comeback, with Endgame Encore earning around $3.8 million, or Rs 36.5 crore. Latin American markets have also added significantly, including $6.1 million from Mexico and $3.1 million from Brazil.
Avengers and Avatar's Box-Office Rivalry Continues
This is not the first time Avengers: Endgame has taken the record from Avatar. The Marvel film originally became the world's highest-grossing movie in 2019 before Avatar later returned to the top following another release.
Now, Endgame has reclaimed the crown once again, giving Marvel another major box-office victory.
The timing is particularly significant as Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive on December 18. The film will release on the same day as Dune: Part Three, setting up another potentially massive theatrical showdown.
For now, though, Avengers: Endgame has already won one battle before its next chapter reaches cinemas.
