Basil Joseph Unveils Gen Z Look in Athiradi, Onam 2026 Release Confirmed

The makers of Athiradi have unveiled a character poster introducing Basil Joseph as Samkutty, also known as SamBoy, instantly sparking buzz around the film. Alongside the reveal, the team confirmed that the film is targeting a theatrical release during Onam 2026, with the final date yet to be announced.

The poster presents Basil Joseph in a youthful, Gen Z–inspired look, featuring a sharp blue shirt, white trousers and a refreshed hairstyle that marks a striking shift from his recent screen appearances. The transformation has drawn widespread attention online, with fans praising the actor’s energy and reinvented persona.

The reveal also prompted reactions from fellow actors. Tovino Thomas commented on the poster, applauding Basil’s age-defying look, while Nazriya Nazim joined in with an enthusiastic response. Their reactions further amplified the excitement surrounding the project.

Athiradi features Basil Joseph, Tovino Thomas and Vineeth Sreenivasan in lead roles. Set largely on a college campus, the film also stars Riya Shibu as one of the female leads. The film marks the directorial debut of Arun Anirudhan, who previously co-wrote Minnal Murali.

The project is the first production venture of Basil Joseph Entertainment and Dr Ananthu Entertainment. Tovino Thomas and cinematographer-filmmaker Sameer Thahir are attached as co-producers. The technical team includes music composer Vishnu Vijay, cinematographer Samuel Henry and editor Chaman Chakko.

Basil Joseph was last seen in Maranamass, a Malayalam psychological black comedy that further showcased his versatility as a performer. With Athiradi, the actor appears set to explore a more youthful and contemporary space, adding to anticipation ahead of its festive release.
