Chatha Pacha locks January 22 release, poster fuels Mammootty cameo speculation

The upcoming Malayalam action entertainer Chatha Pacha has officially locked its theatrical release date, with the makers confirming that the film will hit cinemas on January 22, 2026. The announcement came alongside the release of a striking new poster that has not only revealed the date but also reignited speculation about a possible association with veteran actor Mammootty.

Shared on social media, the release date poster captures the chaotic energy central to the film’s wrestling-driven narrative. Set inside a packed wrestling arena, the visual features roaring crowds, currency notes flying through the air and a wrestler frozen mid-leap, conveying the raw spectacle and intensity the film promises. However, what has truly caught the attention of fans and industry watchers is a subtle design detail in the poster.

The phrase “IN CINE‘M’AS” appears stylised, with the letter “M” distinctly highlighted. This creative emphasis has been widely interpreted as a deliberate hint pointing towards Mammootty’s possible involvement in the project. While the makers have refrained from issuing any official confirmation, the visual cue has added fresh fuel to long-running rumours surrounding a special appearance or cameo by the iconic actor.

Speculation about Mammootty’s connection to Chatha Pacha has existed since the film’s early stages, and the new poster has amplified conversations across social media platforms. The absence of clarity from the production team appears intentional, keeping curiosity alive without committing to a formal announcement. This restrained approach has helped maintain buzz while ensuring the film remains a talking point ahead of its release.

Set against the gritty and vibrant backdrop of Fort Kochi, Chatha Pacha draws inspiration from Kerala’s underground wrestling culture. The film blends action, spectacle and local flavour, positioning itself as a mass entertainer rooted in regional aesthetics but designed for wide appeal.

The ensemble cast is led by Arjun Ashokan, alongside Roshan Mathew and Vishak Nair, with several other prominent actors appearing in key roles. The film marks the directorial debut of Adhvaith Nayar, who has previously worked as an assistant director on notable Malayalam projects.

On the technical front, Chatha Pacha boasts a notable musical collaboration. The film features songs composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, marking their Malayalam cinema debut, while the background score has been composed by Mujeeb Majeed.

The film’s distribution strategy reflects its pan-Indian ambitions. Wayfarer Films will handle the Kerala release, while PVR INOX Pictures manages Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Mythri Movie Makers will release the film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Dharma Productions is overseeing distribution across North India. Internationally, the film is set to release in nearly 100 countries through The Plot Pictures.

With its release date confirmed and speculation surrounding Mammootty continuing to build, Chatha Pacha has positioned itself as one of the most keenly anticipated Malayalam releases of early 2026.
