Kalamkaval OTT Release: When and where to watch Mammootty’s crime thriller

Mammootty’s much-discussed crime thriller Kalamkaval has officially made its way to OTT, giving audiences another chance to experience the dark and unsettling investigation drama from the comfort of their homes. The film, which released theatrically on December 5, 2025, is now streaming on Sony LIV.

The platform confirmed the digital premiere through its official social media handles, announcing that Kalamkaval would be available from January 16. However, the crime thriller quietly dropped on the platform a few hours earlier, allowing subscribers early access. Sharing the film’s poster, Sony LIV wrote, “Stanley Das is coming! Witness Mammootty like never before in #Kalamkaval, streaming from Jan 16, only on Sony LIV.”

Mammootty also acknowledged the OTT release, sharing the update with fans and confirming that the film is now available for streaming.

Directed by Jithin K Jose, Kalamkaval marks a psychological turn in Mammootty’s recent run of intense character-driven films. Set in the seemingly quiet village of Kottayikonam in Kerala, the story begins as a routine police inquiry but soon spirals into a chilling serial-killer investigation that stretches across state borders into Tamil Nadu.

Mammootty plays Stanley Das, a character shrouded in mystery whose calculated actions form the core of the narrative. Opposite him, Vinayakan delivers a restrained yet impactful performance as Sub-Inspector Jayakrishnan, a determined police officer tasked with unraveling a trail of disturbing clues. As the investigation progresses, long-buried secrets surface, forcing the officers to confront not just the killer, but the uncomfortable truths hidden beneath ordinary lives.

The film’s synopsis describes it as a methodical police procedural where seemingly insignificant details gradually expose a web of unsolved crimes. Rather than relying on shock value, Kalamkaval focuses on atmosphere, psychology, and slow-burn tension, making it a fitting watch for viewers who enjoy grounded crime dramas.

The supporting cast includes Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan and Shruti Ramachandran, all of whom contribute to the film’s layered storytelling. Produced by Mammootty Kampany, the project continues the banner’s streak of backing content-driven cinema.

In its review, IndiaToday.in noted that director Jithin K Jose handles the psychological themes with maturity, allowing the narrative to unfold patiently without rushing major revelations. While the film does not reinvent the genre, it maintains engagement through strong performances and a steadily tightening plot.

With its OTT release, Kalamkaval is likely to find a wider audience, particularly among fans of investigative thrillers and Mammootty’s recent run of darker, experimental roles.
