The rising number of cases prompted a review of the influenza situation and preparedness in Delhi. Union Health Minister JP Nadda held a meeting with Delhi health authorities and senior officials to assess surveillance, testing capacity and healthcare preparedness amid the increase in cases.

The review focused on influenza trends, influenza-like illness, severe acute respiratory infection, laboratory testing and the capacity of healthcare facilities to manage seasonal influenza cases.

Centre Reviews Delhi's Healthcare Preparedness

During the review meeting, officials assessed the availability of hospital beds, critical-care facilities and other essential resources required to manage patients if influenza cases continue to rise.

The discussion also covered national surveillance systems and epidemiological trends, along with the monitoring of influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory infection.

JP Nadda stressed the importance of continued vigilance, strong surveillance and proactive preparedness as health authorities monitor influenza trends in Delhi and other parts of the country.

Precautions Advised Amid Rising Influenza Cases

As influenza cases continue to be reported, people are advised to follow basic precautions to reduce the risk of respiratory infections.

Maintaining proper hand hygiene, avoiding unnecessary touching of the eyes, nose and mouth, and taking precautions in crowded places can help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses.

People experiencing flu-like symptoms should avoid close contact with others where possible and seek medical advice if symptoms persist or worsen. Health authorities have also advised against self-medication and stressed the importance of timely medical consultation when required.

Health authorities are expected to continue monitoring influenza trends, laboratory surveillance and healthcare preparedness as Delhi deals with the latest rise in H1N1 and other influenza infections.
